Get online is such vague advice it's actively harmful. It sends founders off to create half-abandoned profiles on six platforms, none of which reinforce the others, none of which convert, and none of which they'll maintain past the third month.

This is a real 90-day plan for building a serious digital presence — website, Google, social, email, and reviews — in the order that gives you the biggest compounding return. Bootstrapped-founder scale. Every step has a job. No busywork.

Month 1 — Foundations (the ground floor)

The first month is about the two assets you'll build everything else on: a website you own and a Google Business Profile you control. Everything downstream depends on these two being in place.

Week 1: Domain + hosting + brand basics

  • Register your .com (or country TLD). ₹800–₹1,500/year at Cloudflare Registrar or Porkbun.
  • Pick hosting appropriate to your build: Vercel/Netlify (free tier fine for MVPs), or SiteGround for WordPress.
  • Lock down your business name across the top 5 platforms (Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok) even if you won't use them all — squatting is real.
  • Draft a one-line positioning statement: who you help, what you do, how you're different. Everything else flows from this.

Weeks 2–4: Ship the website

One page or five, depending on your business. Non-negotiables: real photos, clear services, one dominant CTA, mobile-first design, SSL, and a working contact method. Our minimum viable website checklist has the specifics.

Month 2 — Visibility (getting found)

Now that the foundation exists, the second month is about making sure people can find it. This is where SEO, Google Business Profile, and social start earning their keep.

Week 5: Google Business Profile

Register your GBP if you haven't. Fill every field — categories, services, hours, attributes, photos (at least 15), a 500+ word description. Connect it to your website. This is the single highest-ROI thing most local businesses can do. See our Google Business Profile guide for the full checklist.

Weeks 6–7: Reviews + local SEO

Ask 10 existing customers for Google reviews. Not a mass email — personal messages, one at a time. Aim for 15 reviews by end of month 2. Meanwhile, add basic on-page SEO to your site: unique title tags, meta descriptions, an H1 per page, alt text on images. Our technical SEO checklist has the practical items.

Week 8: Pick one social channel

One. Not five. Whichever your customers actually use: Instagram for local retail and hospitality, LinkedIn for B2B, YouTube if you're comfortable with video, TikTok if your audience is under 30. Commit to posting 2–4 times a week for the next 60 days minimum.

Month 3 — Compounding (turning presence into revenue)

Foundations exist, visibility is growing. Month 3 is about turning that traffic into leads and building the engine that keeps producing.

Week 9: Email list

Set up a simple email tool — MailerLite (free up to 1,000 contacts) or ConvertKit are both great. Add a signup form to your site: not a popup, just a footer bar or a section on your homepage. Offer something worth trading an email for — a checklist, a template, a discount. Our email marketing for beginners guide covers the setup.

Weeks 10–11: Start publishing

One blog post per week or one substantial LinkedIn/Instagram post per week — pick whatever cadence you can actually sustain. Content is what makes SEO work over time; without new pages, you cap out on rankings. Batch record or write. See our keyword research guide for what to write about.

Week 12: Analytics + a second channel

Install GA4 with proper conversion tracking. Add Google Search Console. Look at what's actually driving leads. Add a second social channel only if the first one is running smoothly.

The 90-day checklist at a glance

MonthFocusKey deliverables
1FoundationsDomain, hosting, website live, brand basics locked
2VisibilityGBP complete, 15+ reviews, on-page SEO, one social channel active
3CompoundingEmail list live, weekly publishing, analytics wired, second channel begun
The order matters. Skipping ahead — running ads before you have a website that converts — burns money.

What most founders get wrong

  1. Doing all three months at once. You'll burn out. Sequence matters.
  2. Running ads before the website converts. Fix conversion first; ads amplify what's already working.
  3. Chasing platforms instead of an audience. TikTok isn't the point — reaching customers is.
  4. Ignoring email. It has the highest ROI of any channel, consistently, for decades.
  5. Perfecting the logo before shipping the site. The site can outlive three logos. Ship first.

The bottom line

A serious digital presence is not five profiles on five platforms. It's a website you own, a Google presence you control, a channel where your customers actually spend time, and an email list that survives every platform change.

Ninety days, sequenced right, gets you all four. That's the plan. Everything else in digital marketing is a subplot.

Frequently asked questions

The sum of every place people find, judge, and interact with your brand online — website, Google, social, reviews, email, listings, and search results for your name.
In what order should I build a digital presence?
Website + Google Business Profile first, then reviews and local SEO, then social channels you can genuinely maintain, then email list and content.
How much does it cost to build a serious digital presence?
Bootstrapped: ~$500 upfront (domain, hosting, basic site) + time. Professionally done: $2,000–15,000 depending on brand, site, and content investment.
